Work Life Journey
My first career was working in Los Angeles in post production, working on movie trailers, delivering short documentary pieces to hiring staff for advertising projects. I loved working in Hollywood, but work life balance matters.
Teaching is my second career. I got into the industry in 2018 and now have been teaching for the last five years. I started in middle school English in rural South Carolina for three years before moving to Phoenix to teach film and photography. I'm excited about starting at Mountain Ridge this year as the media and communications/journalism teacher. I have always wanted to give back to the next generation of filmmakers and writers. In class, I use real world experiences from my own jobs and education to give your kids the best possible leg up in the industry of CTE.
Creative and Working Professional Life
I'm also a seasoned writer who published a chapbook in 2018 called Let's Breakup: Poems of Love, Loss, and Life through Unsolicited Press. In 2022, I was a part of a short collection of flash fiction stories called It Could be Anyone's Leg: Flash Fiction Reads, published by Crystal Lake Publishing. When I'm not writing, I'm eating tacos and taking long walks with my husband or interviewing new people on my online art magazine, The Articles of Antiquity.
In terms of filmmaking, I am currently working on a documentary about a chronic illness called Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. The film explores how to live a holistic life while dealing with E.D.S. This is a feature documentary that has an estimated finish date of December of 2023. It's called Hiding in Plain Sight: A Spoonies Journey.
